Introducing our Newest Freebies: Seedlings Homeschool Planner & Seedlings morning Menu

Hi friends! I’m so thankful you found this little corner of the internet! I’m so thankful for the beautiful community of homeschooling families in my city, and I’ve also been blessed by a number of homeschool mamas who have shared their homeschool experiences online for me to learn from and be inspired by!

My Educational Background

I attended a private Christian school from 1st – 12th grade. It was an immense blessing. I had a number of teachers that had a lasting impact on my life and faith. I’m so thankful for my parents’ financial sacrifice to provide me with a great start to my educational journey!

For college, I attended the University of Kentucky and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. God used my time at a secular university to deepen the roots of my faith. Though I became a believer at the age of six, it was not until college that my faith was challenged by unbelievers and secular thoughts. I’m thankful that the Lord graciously walked with me for a season of doubting and strengthened my faith in the way that only trials can.

I later attended Asbury University and received my Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. I remember this degree being a lot of fun, as my husband and I both share a delight in international culture and languages.

My teaching Background

I’ve been teaching in some capacity for 18 years now. Some years have been more challenging than others (like the very first year out of college), but teaching is a joy and a delight in any season. Here’s a rundown of my experience:

  • Preschool Assistant: 2 years
  • Public School Classroom: 1 Year
  • Public School ESL Teacher: 8 Years
  • Christian School Reading/Math Intervention: 2 Years
  • Private Tutor: 2 Years
  • Homeschool Teacher: 3 Years

I can honestly say that in all of my teaching experience, homeschooling has been the most challenging of all (and by far the most rewarding). In all of my classroom experience, I never had a toddler running about looking for fun, or a messy house to manage. Learning how to balance the needs of my student, my toddler, and my house all at the same time has been a growing experience for me! That being said, I’d absolutely have it no other way. Homeschool has been one of the greatest blessings the Lord has given our family, and we’re so immensely grateful!

My Educational Philosophy

First and foremost, we desire to honor King Jesus in our home and day-to-day life. To that end, we aim to pursue truth and beauty in our curriculum choices, our gathered resources, and our scheduled activities. We lean heavily on the Charlotte Mason methodology to guide our curriculum choices, and we attend a Charlotte Mason co-op in our region. We’ve used a mixture of Ambleside and the Alveary in our day-to-day lesson planning.
