B is for Beaver

Today we’re doing a round up of our favorite Beaver Books! We’ll be sharing living books, filled with wonderful language, accurate details, and gorgeous illustrations that captured the minds of our children. We hope your children enjoy them too!

Building by Henry Cole

This book has absolutely amazing illustrations, and if I’m quite honest, I’m really dreading returning this one to the library! The text was simple enough for my toddler to enjoy, but gave us a great start to learning factual information about beavers!

When Beavers Flew by Kristen Tracy

The title of this book captured my oldest daughters attention right away, and it was an amazing historical story about the relocation and preservation of beavers in the 1940s, right after World War I. The book was filled with themes of problem solving, nature preservation, and determination!

The Lodge That Beaver Built by Randi SoneNshine

This was a sweet little book suited well for younger readers. It’s written in a cheerful, repetitive style, introducing the pond ecosystem and gently illustrates how beavers are one of the keystone species in pond ecosystems. The page ends with a more scientific discussion of the facts illustrated in the book, making it easily adaptable for older siblings.

Beaver and Otter Get Along…Sort Of by Sneed B. Collard III

Y’all – I’m learning so much from these children’s books! This was another favorite. It somehow taught me scientific information while also convicting me (as a mother) to love my earthly neighbors more intentionally. What a great book!

Five Busy Beavers by Stella Parthenious Grasso

Disclaimer: This one is definitely NOT what Charlotte Mason would classify as a Living Book, but it was a sweet counting book for the younger siblings to enjoy. We loved reading it with my toddler to round out our study of beavers!
